Alexander Ebert Goes Solo
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’ very own Alexander Ebert is going solo. He’s going by the name Alexander, and is releasing his self titled debut album March 1st on Community Music (via Vagrant).
You can hear two songs from the album right now. “Truth” starts off like a lonely journey through a dry desert plane but soon spreads it wings towards various genres. It’s available to...

Photo #20 - RVA visits Keystone
Jan 22, 2011
Some friends from Richmond, Jenny and Heather, came to visit and to experience snowboarding in Colorado.
We went up to Keystone for the day. The weather was decent, sunny but too windy at times.
I need to get to the mountain more before the season is up.

Photo #19 - A Quick Trim
Jan 21, 2011
I was having this weird, small chunk of hair that was growing longer than the rest. It needed to be fixed immediately or risk having people believe I was sporting a beginner mullet.
Thanks Erica from saving me from fashion shame.

Go to work. It’s sunny. Warm. Light jacket needed.
Look outside at 3pm. It’s cloudy. Snowing. Wish I brought a warmer jacket.
Boulder weather is weird.

This amazing piece of machinery was sitting in a church parking lot near my house. How do you justify driving this?
There were also two huge dogs sitting in the front seats and two small fuzzy dolls attached to the front bumper.
This is hot.

Photo #13 - That person look famous.
Jan 13, 2011
At the CP+B Holiday Party, I won 2 court-side tickets to the Denver Nuggets v. Miami Heat game. I was disappointed that LeBron James sprained his ankle and was a no show. But former Tar Heel, Ty Lawson was a rockstar for the Nuggets - naturally.
Erin and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out if we were sitting next to anyone famous. After halftime, the guy in the photo...

The 2010 Kickstarter Awards
Only through my recent involvement with David McKay’s short film, The Man Who Would Live, did I come to know of Kickstarter. The site allows individuals or groups to find funding for their creative endeavors.
The site recently put out The 2010 Kickstarter Awards on their blog to highlight the most creative projects funded on the site this year. The most inspiring element to me is to see...

Dan’s reaction to Sarah’s awkward childhood photo. We also learned that Sarah’s mom paid her $50 in 7th grade to give up her buzz cut for a longer, more feminine hairstyle.
Priceless.

Creepiosity
Disturbing, insightful, and more often than not hilarious, Creepiosity ($6) celebrates the unintentionally creepy with zest and zeal. From hairless cats and used Band-Aids to scarily life-like baby dolls and a smiling Dick Cheney, this 190 page paperback will keep you entertained from cover-to-cover.

Photo #11 - YIKES!!
Jan 11, 2011
My spare room has exploded into the chaos of unpacking from Australia and the holidays. It’s overwhelming. I don’t want to deal with it.
But Jenny and Heather are coming to visit next weekend for some snowboarding excitement, and I need to get my place in order before then. UGH.
On a separate note - I am sharing this despite my better judgment because I said I was...

Photo #10 - LEGOs + Ninjas = Ninjago!
Jan 10, 2011
My Christmas gift from Steph Shaw, aka Wifey, was waiting for me today when I got to work. Wifey got me the best gift EVER. Two of my favorite things in one, LEGOs and ninjas!! WIN!
Then to make things even better, Tony Tung came by my desk and informed me that there is a whole new series of LEGO Ninjagos.
I want them all, especially the dojo.

In case you haven’t been on a plane in the past 20 years, you should be aware that smoking is not permitted on any Delta flight. After traveling from SYD - ATL - RDU on 1/8 and then RDU - ATL - DEN on 1/9, I am well versed in the safety video played on Delta flights.
I think I preferred the days of flight attendants giving the demonstration rather than watching that creepy...

Photo #7 - How do you like your kangaroo?
Jan 7, 2011
For my last dinner in Sydney, Craig, Jon and I went to Wolfies Grill at The Rocks. The last thing on my Australian to-do list was to eat a kangaroo. I ordered the kangaroo loin fillet medium rare with crocodile tail medallions served with potatoes, slow roasted tomatoes and a red wine jus.
The kangaroo tasted similar to beef steak and the rarer portions were much more flavorful...

Photo #6 - Chinese Gardens at Darling Harbour
Jan 6, 2011
Today Craig, Blaise and I crossed the city to spend the morning in China, well actually the Chinese Gardens at Darling Harbour.
Definitely one of my favorite adventures while I’ve been in Sydney.
Highlights included the rent-able traditional Chinese silk robes which tourists then pose in for photos, giant rock sculptures that look like animals in the Lake of Brightness and...

Photo #4 - BRIEFS
Jan 4, 2011
Jon, Craig and I went to see BRIEFS at the Sydney Opera House. We got a bottle of wine at the show and one of the cast members knocked it over during one of the acts. Even though a minimal amount was spilled, the cast purchased us a new bottle. After the show, we enjoyed drinks at the Opera Bar and ended up meeting the cast. As the MC Fez Faanana - in the plaid between Jon and...

Photo #2 - Three Sisters
Jan 2, 2011
Jon and Craig’s friends, Ian and James, took us all out to the Blue Mountains for the day. Here’s a photo of the Three Sisters. This spot was overrun by tourists but we went on our own adventure - possibly ignoring some NO EXIT signs - and found amazing views that could be enjoyed without the pushing and shoving of tourists trying to take photos.
